DIVISION OF FLOW METROLOGY |
The Division of Flow Metrology conducts research works in
the field of flow measurements and automation of research
processes, especially those related to thermodynamic and
kinematic parameters of the steady and unsteady liquid
stream.
The investigations are devoted to:
- improvement and development of measurement methods of
pressure, temperature and velocity under steady and unsteady
1D, 2D and 3D flow conditions,
- calibration methods, test stands for automatic,
multi-parameter static calibration of pneumatic and electric
transducers of thermodynamic and kinematic parameters of the
stream, an analytical description of static characteristics
and employment of neuron networks during calibration
procedures.
- identification and correction of dynamic properties of
temperature transducers,
- distortions of the unsteady measurement signal in the
pneumatic part of the electro-pneumatic measurement path,
- investigations of unsteady flow phenomena in:
§
straight and branched channels supplied in a pulsating way,
§
multistage machines, especially the clocking effect and
determination of the optimal rotor-stator position to obtain
the turbine maximum efficiency and to decrease the noise
emitted,
§
radial compressors (measurements of time-variable
pressures),
- measurements of the spatial noise field generated by
turbomachinery to determine, e.g., a correlation between the
clocking in blading and a decrease in the noise generated by
the turbine,
- photooptical flow methods,
- automation of test stands to conduct ”online” tests,
- identification of the approaching surge in radial
compressors,
- time-frequency analysis of signals obtained experimentally.
The Division of Flow Metrology is equipped with numerous
unique test stands and measurement apparatus:
- an anechoic chamber with the volume of 386.5 m3
and the area more than 368 m2,
- automated test stands for static and dynamic calibration of
transducers,
- a test stand for investigations of pulsating flows of the
gas stream,
- a generator of unsteady pressures,
-
Thermosystem and Dantec thermoanemometric multichannel
apparatus with probes for velocity measurements in 1D, 2D
and 3D flows,
- WaveBook, DaqBook, and Keithley data acquisition stations,
- Brüel & Kjær Pulse apparatus for acoustic measurements,
- Scanivalve pressure commutators,
- specialist probes to measure time-variable pressure and
velocity in liquid jets and in boundary layers,
- two wind tunnels to calibrate pneumatic and
thermoanemometric probes,
- wind tunnel to test flat blade cascades.
