DIVISION OF HEAT TECHNOLOGY AND REFRIGERATION

Division of Heat Technology and Refrigeration deals with issues related to heat technology, refrigeration and air conditioning. Among research activities, the following fields of investigations should be enumerated:

- thermodynamics of physical processes in refrigerating, air conditioning systems and heat pumps,

- air processing and its optimization in air conditioning and ventilation,

- thermal, physical and energy generation properties of biofuels,

- thermodynamics of combustion of dust-air and gaseous mixtures,

- heat exchange in steady and unsteady processes occurring in cycles and devices installed in heat technology and refrigeration systems,

- hydrodynamics of fluidization processes used in refrigeration, food industry and fluidized beds.

The newest experimental apparatus, e.g., a PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) measurement system that allows for nonintrusive measurements of velocity fields in flows, is used in these investigations.  The method of recording fast-variable phenomena along with visualization of physical phenomena related to fluid density diversification is especially useful in the analysis of motion of various machines and devices and technological processes in industry. The described method, supplemented with analysis and modeling of heat and flow processes, has been broadly used in expertise and evaluation of performance of technical devices. In experimental investigations, such engineering software as ANSYS CFX® and FLUENT is applied. Modeling and simulation of the phenomena including heat transfer are very helpful in testing prototypes during their design and start-up. Technical analyses of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and biofuels are also conducted at the Division.
