Medical Equipment Facility
The main area of interest and research focus of Medical Equipment Facility is establishing the connection between Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. Our work combines the knowledge and skill from different fields of science and requires researchers to comprehend how to operate the cutting edge, precise engineering tools at our disposal, but also to have a vast knowledge about human anatomy and physiology.
The employees of MEF have took part in many projects, a myriad of them finalized with tremendous success. We are especially proud of:
- Anti-bacterial sol-gel surfaces that contain carbon nanoparticles.
- The creation of absorbent bandage based on active exogenous tropocollagen, made from the skin of fish with added modified carbon nanopowder.
- The creation of a series of disc-shaped mechanical valves for pediatric cardiac support chambers.
- Many scientific papers on numerical study of blood flow in human arterial systems, especially:
- The circle of Willis
- Stents and endovascular implants
- Cimino fistula
- Artificial cardiac support chamber with valves (in cooperation with Professor Zbigniew Religa Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development in Zabrze).
- Designing an original software to process DICOM images to 3D models of blood vessels.
- Building a station for the research of pulse flows in human cardiovascular system, which includes the biggest blood vessels and the circle of Willis.
- The creation and research on diamond microflow devices, for DNA and proteins analysis, a part of multinational MNT project.
Medical Equipment Facility also takes part in industry commissions that concern:
- Compressor modernization
- Construction of flow machines
- Construction of personalized tools for various industrial usage.
- Numerical calculations of flow lines and drive lines.
- Construction and design of specialized measuring tools for medical use.
Employees of MEF teach about various fields of engineering, utilizing several academic teaching methods (lectures, seminars, trainings, projects, group projects, laboratories) in both Polish and English for the students of all Łódź University of Technology. The lessons conducted by the Facility include for example:
- Medical devices and apparatus
- Bio-measurements
- The flow of blood in human body
- Artificial organs
- Mechanics and thermodynamics of fluids
- Energy sources and their exploitation
- Design using computer software
- Flow analysis and 3D models optimalization
- Supervising the writing of scientific and academic papers of our students
Each year we publish many scientific papers and promote several MA- and Engineer-level graduates.
Our Facility cooperated with reputable science institutions and industrial companies, such as:
