A new Lodz partnership: The Institute of Turbomachinery and the Medical University have embarked on a joint mission to combat microplastics.
The Institute of Turbomachinery and the Department of Biomedicine and Experimental Surgery at the Medical University of Lodz have signed an agreement to develop scientific cooperation in the field of interdisciplinary research on microplastics in the human body. Dr. Eng. Daniel Jodko will be responsible for coordinating activities on behalf of the Institute, overseeing efforts to integrate the expertise of both teams.
The joint work of the two institutions will focus on advanced research covering hemodynamic phenomena within carotid artery stenosis, the detection and quantitative assessment of microplastics in the cardiovascular system and cancerous tissues, as well as the development of numerical modeling methods enabling the analysis of microplastic accumulation and distribution and its potential impact on physiological processes, including blood flow disturbances and the development of chronic diseases.
The scope of cooperation will include the exchange of scientific knowledge and experience, mutual access to research infrastructure, joint preparation of projects and grant proposals, organization of seminars, workshops, and scientific meetings, as well as initiating joint publications in leading international journals. This partnership will create a coherent and dynamic platform for conducting research with high scientific and application potential.
The synergy of both institutions’ competencies provides a strong foundation for the development of innovative research methods of significant importance for science and public health. At the same time, it aims to support the development of young researchers through joint academic supervision, training, and academic exchange. Combining research potential will enable the implementation of projects with high scientific and practical value, while also creating opportunities to expand cooperation into additional areas aligned with the profiles of both institutions.
