As part of the Fluid Mechanics Conference, we cordially invite you to the lecture by Prof. Szymon Malinowski entitled Fluid Dynamics of Earth’s Climate, which will take place on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, at 6:00 PM at the Institute of Physics, Lodz University of Technology. The event is open to all conference participants as well as anyone interested in the topic.

The atmosphere and the oceans are fluids. Fluids flow and transport heat, momentum, and various substances. Their motion on a rotating planet is determined by differences between the absorption of solar energy in the form of shortwave electromagnetic radiation and the emission of Earth’s energy into space in the form of infrared radiation. These processes constitute the physical foundations of weather and climate. During the lecture, I will present simple, yet still not widely known physical fundamentals of climate science that explain contemporary anthropogenic climate change and the methods used to create climate projections for the future.

Prof. Szymon Piotr Malinowski (Institute of Geophysics, University of Warsaw) is an atmospheric physicist, Professor of Earth Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and Chair of the Committee on the Climate Crisis at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences. His scientific interests include atmospheric physics, particularly cloud physics, atmospheric turbulence, airborne measurements, and numerical modelling. He is the co-author of more than 100 peer‑reviewed publications and three textbooks, as well as the principal investigator or leader of over 20 national and international research projects. He is also the co‑founder of the Nauka o Klimacie (Science on Climate) portal and the Climate Education Foundation.
