A student's association from Łódź University of Technology has won in the final of International Small Wind Turbine Contest 2024 their innovative wind turbine has earned the first place in Sustainability category, It is a significant success for the project, and another merit it had received, proving the high quality and innovativeness of the projects of Polish students.
GUST (Generative Urban Small Turbine) is a student's initiative established in October 2015. The work on the project is done by the students from Student's Association of Energists (SKNE), operating under the Institute of Turbomachinery of the faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Łódź University of Technology. The association includes students from the Faculties of: Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering, Organization and Management, Process and Environmental Engineering and International Faculty of Engineering.
The newest GUST design has turned out to be unmatched in terms of the reduction of carbon footprint, use of local resources and most importantly - its utilization of biocomposite, based of linen fibers. International jury of the contest had especially applauded students from GUST for their extensive analysis of the LCA fife cycle assessment.
This year, the team had showcased an entirely new design, which included a new design and a variable step system. The achieved victory is much significant and proves the commitment and efforts of the team. GUST's turbine has proven to be effective and reliable even with the wind's speed above 12 m/s. GUST continues to improve on their project and year by year shows the tangible results of their hard work. Students are already brainstorming possible additions to their project for the 2025 edition of the contest.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the sponsors and partners that had noticed the potential in GUST and decided to support the project. This success was possible thanks to you.
